We often receive questions regarding connection speeds. Usually the
customer wants to know why the connection speed is lower than the
slowest
of the the two modems involved.
ALL OUR MODEMS ARE 56K and support the v.90 protocol.
Slower speeds are NOT because you connected to a
slower modem on our end!

Connection speed is dependent on the quality of the
telephone
connection between the 2 modems. The telephone company guarantees a
9600
bps connection. Above that, speeds will vary. Typically,
you can expect speeds to vary between 24,000 and 54,000 depending on
phone line trafic at the time.
The unfortunate fact regarding connection speed is that telephone
infrastracture was never designed to handle internet traffic.
Meanwhile there are a few things you can do to maximize your connection
speed. Set your max modem speed to 57,600
THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR...
Make sure you are using the most recent driver software for your
particular modem.
